GWSR 35006 'P&O' Photographic Charter

£100.00

A photographic charter at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway with SR Merchant Navy Class No. 35006 Peninsular & Oriental S.N.Co before the locomotive retires for its 10 year overhaul.

Friday 31 October 2025 0845-1730
Toddington Railway Station, Toddington, Gloucestershire, GL54 5DT

Join us for a special photography day in the Cotswolds, with 35006 at the head of a passenger train formed of five Crimson & Cream Mk1 coaches and a Chocolate & Cream RMB (Buffet) in the centre — recreating the authentic atmosphere of the final years of BR steam.

The locomotive will be facing south following its return from the Severn Valley Railway this month.

Don’t miss this unique chance — it will be the last opportunity to photograph 35006 before it is withdrawn for overhaul.

Itinerary

Our photography day will begin promptly at 08:45 with a safety briefing at Toddington station. The train will depart at approximately 0900 and will set off to make full use of the line, spanning Broadway to Cheltenham Racecourse.

Morning Highlights

The morning session will focus on the Toddington–Broadway section, starting with run pasts of the train working across Stanway Viaduct. We will walk to the field from Toddington Station where there are views looking down on to the structure.

From there, 35006 will meet us in Toddington station and we’ll travel to Broadway, where the locomotive will run round. We will then stop at locations in Little Buckland and Stanton Cutting as we head back south. By late morning, we will pause at Toddington for a brief lunch stop and crew change.

Lunchtime Break

The Cotswold Halt Cafe will be open, offering a selection of food, toasties, and sandwiches for participants to refuel before heading back out for the afternoon session.

Afternoon Highlights

The afternoon session will explore the southern section of the line. 35006 will work south of Toddington to Winchcombe, to Defford Straight near Chicken Curve. From there, we’ll progress to the cutting at Greet Tunnel, photographing the train from both the Winchcombe side and the far side of the tunnel at Greet to photograph the train exiting the tunnel mouth.

We will then make our way down the line towards Dixton and the Gotherington area for late afternoon and last light photographs. At Cheltenham Racecourse the locomotive will run round and take us back to Toddington for around 1730.

This itinerary is carefully crafted to offer a diverse range of angles and settings, allowing participants to photograph in locations not typically accessible during regular operating days.

Tickets

A maximum of 30 places will be available to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable photography experience. We expect this will sell out quite quickly, so please book now to avoid disappointment.
